Prescription Eyeware for Riding/Driving

New postby lobsterman on 31 Oct 2009, 11:12

OK, so I've searched a lot and read a lot, but I'd like to know what you good folks around here do.

My dilemma:

My eyes aren't very good. I need to wear glasses or contacts all the time. I'm at the age where I need multi-focal lense glasses or reading glasses when I wear my contacts for close up stuff.

I prefer to wear contacts when I am riding, but that is often not practical for me, particularly when going to work as my bifocal glasses are really better for working than my contacts.

I have some great single focus Ray Ban Rx sunglasses, but I can't wear them when it's dark outside or raining etc. They have a good shape for driving and riding to give me some help with peripheral vision.

It comes to this, I am looking for single focus Rx glasses suitable for riding and driving when it is cloudy/rainy/dark etc. and anytime when I need to be looking off into the distance a lot (think indoor concert or auditorium situation where sunglasses won't do).

I think I want frames that are more like sport use sunglasses, i.e. more sort of wrap around because I want more peripheral vision than I get from my regular glasses. Not too far out there style wise though because there will be times I want to wear them when I am not riding or driving.

Obviously whatever I get needs to be conducive to wearing with my full face helmet as well.

So, that's long winded but if you're still with me...

What do you folks do? If you have Rx glasses you really like for riding, where'd you get them and how much did they cost you?
