Scooter tires.

Unread postby Rolly56 » 03 Oct 2010, 17:36

:) G'day up there.3rd set of tires went on the Wing last Friday. The originals were IRC,absolute crap. The 2nd set were Bridgestone Hoops, not much better. The 3rd set is Michelin Pilot Sport scooter tires, unbloodybelievable. They track like the scoot is on rails and stick like crap to a blanket.Only a couple of weeks to go and I'll be heading north for 2 rallies. That'll test the tires, and the rider.I'll do a short story when I get home.Cheers till then,Rolly. :D :D :D

I've been interested in the Pilot Sports, but everytime I need tires my size has been out of stock everywhere. (my front tire is a goofy size, 110/90-12)

Keep us posted.

I have a Michelin hoot ordered ... I think that is what its called.

The Michelin Gold Standard I have on now is crap. On the rear tire the tread is seperating from the inner hard core and has caused a bubble in the tire. Hopefully I will get the new tire on Friday.

Mike you have the worst luck with your scooter parts... Maybe you should just order double of everything and you will be set!

:) Well boys and girls, the Michelin Sport scooter tires are showing no signs of wear yet,5000 kilometers, they still stick to the road like my life depends on them !!!!! Would I try them again? Yes. I'm still keen to try the Pirellis though. They have a very aggressive tread pattern that may be better in the wet.Time will tell I suppose.I need to see how long the Michelin last before I change them out.I'm looking forward to the Stanthorpe rally in a few weeks.I'll let you'all know what it was like.Cheers,Rolly. :D :D :D

G'day Folks.Up to 11,000 k's on the Michelin tires now,and still wearing very well.Front tire shows no real sign of wear, but the rear has started to wear more on the muffler side because of the camber on the road, and I sit crooked too.Cheers,Rolly. :D

Rolly, that is good to hear. I know my poor back tires take a beating way before the front one.

We were getting Shinko tires for the last couple years and swore by them. The last couple pairs we bought were absolute garbage and so poorly constructed. So we, too, have been checking out others.

Have a great time rallying!

G'day Folks.I've recently had the fourth set of tires fitted to the Wing. The dealer wasn't able to get the Michelin Pilot scooter tires this time.I had to settle for an obscure brand from Malaysia called SAVA.Sadly,I'm having a balance issue with the front tire. From about 20 to 40 mph,the front end shakes.Only noticeable when you take a hand off the bars.It really is a shame ,because they are even better than the Michelins. The ride is good, there is no movement under hard braking, and best of all,the scoot doesn't wriggle as I ride over irregularities in the road surface. It tracks straight and true.My only course of action now,is to have the tire dynamically balanced as you would a car.If that doesn't fix it,then I think another tire will need to go on.I managed just over 10,000 miles on the Michelins, not bad considering most of that was highway use.It tends to wear the centre of the tire before the edges.Cheers for now, have a great day.
