Saturday, April 30th, 2011 Out-n-About Ride

Postby Bonegirl » 18 Mar 2011, 11:46

If everything goes as planned, a ride is being planned for most of the day on Saturday, April 30th. :D Someone else has planned the route and it will include quite a bit of Indiana and hopefully a picnic type lunch, possibly in or around Hueston Woods State Park in Oxford. This takes some planning so we'll have more details once we sit down and review the route and maybe even pre-ride the route.

The following people have shown an interest in this ride. If you change your mind, no problem, just let us know so we know who to expect and aren't waiting around on Saturday looking and worrying where you are. Thanks, Kids!

Welcome back, Sailor! I won't be a passenger or take a passenger but I know Debbie and a lot of others have. Somebody will help you. Too bad there's no time before the ride to take the MSF Advanced Rider Course. They teach you how to take passengers.

I'll put you down for the ride!

I have ridden a passenger quite a few times and don't mind it at all sometimes. My best advice is to just of course always be conscious that they are back there. The weight will feel proportionate and not a big difference on the straight-a-way until you are starting and stopping when it is more noticeable, so always try to brake slower with a little more pressure and even more ahead of time.. I usually throttle a little more on the take-off. I also just always remember to take the curves even easier and lean a little slower making sure the passenger is also aware to lean natural with you in the turn. I had a rider one time that thought if I leaned right then they might make us tip over and had that fear so they would lean left. That's not gonna work, lol, and that was one time where I had a little problem but other than that, it's not bad at all. I also make sure the motor is off and I'm braking when they dismount so that the bike doesn't move, etc.

Hope this helps somewhat and I would also recommend the "advanced" riders course that I took as well! Deb

See ya on the ride :D

Dave and Ang,
What time do you think we'll get started for this ride? And any idea of what our return time might be?

Steve,

Ang and I will talk about the details tonight, I think we will probably leave around 10 and the total trip with stops will be around 6 hours

Epic

Postby Bonegirl » 15 Apr 2011, 23:53

Me and Dave spent a little while talking about the ride planned. It is going to be epic, it is going to be a blast, it is going to cover a couple states and it will be a lot of fun. We figure 6 hour day so saddle up, put you big girl panties on and get ready for some scootering!

I'm now very iffy for the ride. My parents are going to be in town (from CA) and were supposed to be leaving on the 30th in the morning. They just changed their plans and aren't leaving until May 1. Since we only see them a couple times a year at most, I value as much time with them as possible. I may try to make a little of the ride with you - even if it's just to Oxford and back. That may even be wishful thinking. I was really looking forward to the full day with you guys.
