Replacement Scooter

Unread postby ServoCrow » 03 May 2011, 10:22

I'm losing some style, but gaining functionality and features.

Yesterday I made payment on a 2001 Honda Reflex 250; I'll be picking it up on Thursday and will post some pictures up then. It's in decent shape with a few dings and scratches and kinda high miles, but it's a Honda, it will run forever. I think with some good gas a some miles, it should be a great ride.

With 250cc I can now get on the expressway, which is good since lately I've been driving around 300 miles a week lately.

As you might expect, the Elite is listed for sale now.

Honda makes great engines. Some TLC and you can probably go many more miles! Congrats!

Well the trip home wasn't entirely uneventful.

I'm guessing the Reflex hadn't been ridden a long distance at speed for a while. Coming from north of Lebanon, I hoped on I-71S at OH-48, jumped on I-275 over to Wards Corner. When I came to a stop at the end of the ramp, I had smoke coming from the dash vents and the temp gauge was pegged, so I pulled into the nearest parking lot.

I noted no more smoke as I parked, but the temp was definitely pegged. The fluid resevoir was hard to read, so I figured I'd let it sit for a while. I figure the smoke was either something on the front brake, or something burning off of the radiator. The temp gauge concerned me, but I know that with long runs at WOT on the Elite, the temp will peg on that too with out much issue.

Grabbed some dinner while the Reflex sat cooling. As I rode home, the temp was slowly coming down towards the normal range, and no more smoke. I'll check fluid levels tomorrow when it's cool.

On a neat side note, the bike came with a Givi screen and Monokey top case.

Should have got a house with a bigger garage, but I can fit all three bikes and the car, so it's cool for now.

I'd start by flushing and cleaning the coolant system, then put fresh in.

Looks like a nice ride.

It would appear that the coolant was low, as I was able to put a couple of ounces into the system. Filling the raditor is not as easy as I thought. I think I'll run the bike for a while before draining and re-filling, in an effort to sweep the system.

The Reflex still idles poorly. I don't know if this is a lingering symptom of the bad gas or a clogged primary needle - at higher RPM's it seems to run better. A couple tanks of 93 octane won't hurt it.

First things first, I need to deal with getting the title switched over and then plates. I'm hoping I can switch the plates from my old scooter over, as I just renewed them two weeks ago.

Ohio won't let you transfer plates, unless the vehicle you're transferring them FROM is sold and no longer in your name.
