Newbie to Site

Hi all,
Just joined yesterday. Currently I do not have a scooter but seriously thinking of getting one. I started to ride when I was 50 and started out on a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 CC which I really, really liked. I also had a 1985 Honda Shadow 700 which was really not comfy for me to ride. Just could not put my feet on the ground!!! Eventually I got rid of both of them and have been without for quite a number of years. Would love to get a Scooter and start riding again but I am a bit wishy washy about it right now. Just have to be ready for it I guess. Great riding weather right now!! : )

Hello Perky Barb:

Welcome! I say get that Scooter and maybe start off with something smaller like a 125 to get back in the groove again. Or maybe even up to a 250cc Scooter since it sounds like you have some Motorcycle experience. I actually started off on Motorcycles also first with a 250 Honda Rebel which I took my test on and then have ridden a Honda Shadow which are nice bikes and even a Harley Sportster. But I prefer automatics with a Scooter for sure. Much easier with no gear shifting and still a blast to ride.

Metro Scooter on Montgomery Road may be a good place for you to start looking. They have pretty regular cookouts as well on Wednesdays and one also tonite. You could come and meet everyone and take a look. If you can't make it tonite, maybe try one sometime in the future!

Maybe we'll see ya out there riding with us soon :)

Thanks so much about the cookout. I am not able to go this evening but may do it in the future. I have been to Metro Scooter and looked at the scooters there. Maybe I will stop by next week and look again. Automatic sounds good to me. Live in Fairfield but go to Crossroads in Oakley and also go there to volunteer once a week so it is easy enough for me to stop by Metro. I also took my test on the 250 Rebel, friend used it the same day to take his test, was working at the time and customer borrowed it to take his test on. What a good one to take your test on. Offered it to a tall fellow on a Harley and he said no he would take it on the Harley (same day friend and I took our tests on the rebel). Felt really bad for him because he dropped the Harley in the turn!!!
You just may see me out there riding.

Hey PerkyBarb,
Where do you volunteer at Crossroads? I work there. Would love to say hi and talk scoots. Or maybe we already know each other but just not as "perkybarb" and "stemer."

Welcome! :D
Automatic is a way to go! Since you already have time on a motor bike. Go with a 250cc The SYM RV250's have a low seat and lots of storage space. The Modern Vespa's are good too! Check them out next time your at Metro ... If you haven't already.

Welcome! We're always looking for new people to join/lead rides.
Hope you find a scoot that suits you. Metro is a good place to start; they sell a variety.

Hi Bonegirl,
Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Just go back on the site. I will look at the SYM RV250. Maybe next week. We have been going to Crossroads since 2002. Great place.
Hope all went well Wednesday night and the One Way Farm ride goes well. I am sure it will.
Later,

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info on the scooters. 250CC sounds good to me. Been to Metro before and will be going again.
