New Member from Madison Place on the East Side

Postby burgman2170 » 02 Apr 2011, 22:10

Hello everyone I just joined in today. I have a 2005 Burgman Scooter Trike, yes trike and maybe I might be the only one out there in the city that does. I haven't seen any so far around town. I love riding my trike that I purchased last spring up in northen Ohio. The Burgman had a fresh paint job last year and recently I just purchased a new GIVI trunk that still needs to go on the back.

Today I renewed my temp license yet still haven't taken my riders test. So far the State of Ohio will not let me take my test on the trike. To get my motorcycle license I need to take the test on a scooter or a motorcycle. However I might have an out as of today as the head of the BMV in Columbus is going to look at my bike more closely. I will find out next week what he decides.

Anyway I look forward to meeting everyone in the group and getting some ride time in this summer. I work plenty of hours but might get a one weekend day off here in there.

Posting a picture of my bike has been a problem. I have a picture or two on my computer but when I download it I get a message telling me that the picture is too large. Not sure how to make it smaller. Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. We hope to see you out on some rides this year. . .
If you're trying to post the photo as your avatar, it can only be 200x200 pixels, maximum. I use www.picresize.com to scale down photos for my avatar and it works well.

Welcome & I like the trike. As I understand you can buy trike kits for most scooters, I've seen a Yamaha Majesty with one. Hope to see you on some rides this year.

Thanks. Yes you can get one for the Yamaha and the Honda Silverwing. Mine is a Danson Trike Set. The side wheels are only there for support and show. The bike still gets power and brakes from the rear wheel.

Some of there scooter trike like the Ice Bear I do believe are not very good. The Danson and Trinity Trike sets are the best for scooters. My knees are not as good as they were so a trike gives me more support and the trike is great on long rides.

Thanks! Got it out for the first time this year and took it for a ride before the rains came. It felt good to get out on the road again. I get plenty of looks on my Trike. People stop a the lights and roll down their windows and say "cool ride", want to sell it? No way just got it.

Now it got cold again back in the garage and wait for another warm day to ride the Burgy.

If you take the motorcycle safety class offered at the oaks (diamond great etc.) they provide bikes (not scooters) and you willl get your endorsement when you pass the class

Yeah I did check out the class at Diamond Oaks. Maybe I need to do that. I never been on a motorcycle before don't know how to shift so that would be a learning experience for me if I want to trade up and move to a Honda Goldwing trike one day. I do know I cannot take a riders test on my trike as it has three wheels on the back. I found that out yesterday from Columbus. Stupid law. So if I want to get full motorcycle license I need to ride a scooter or go to Diamomd Oaks.

BurgmanGirl it looks like many of the people here on the forum own smaller cc scooters. At first I didn't think that they would even let me join here as my Burgman is a 650 almost a motorcycle. This darn thing is really fast maybe a little too fast.

Bonegirl thanks for the comments. I really want to ride and get more into this site. I see this is a good group of people and the site has plenty to offer. Weekends are busy for me at work but every now and then I can get one day out of the weekend off. My nephew rides a motorcycle and my little nephew rides a trike. We took several trips last summer over to Rabbit Hash and over to Friendship IN. This year I would like to go on a ride with this group. I can see that riding is fun and now I wish I had a bike years ago.

Bike size isn't an issue here!

I am glad you're willing to hang with us. I was able to take my MSF course on my scooter with permission from the state. I had no desire to learn how to shift and ride a motorcycle all in one weekend. Maybe you can borrow a scooter from someone in order to obtain your motorcycle endorsement. What kind of a license do you have to have with the trike? I guess I never really thought about it because the folks I know with a trike had their MC endorsement already.

We have riders on this Forum on motorcycles and scooters alike. Some of the motorcycles are very powerful and the cruiser rides give them fits because of all the shifting they have to do. But speed is usually a non-issue on our rides. Slower bikes in front to regulate the pace of the ride and faster in the back. We do 2-lane highways when traveling to Rallies and never expressways so again, bike speed usually doesn't matter. Patience may be in order once in awhile but it's all about the ride. 8)

There are quite a few Burgmans here. Debbie, Holly and Robert for sure. We ride with Dayton folks frequently and Papa Johns has a Silverwing. Lots of 250cc scooters. Lots of 125cc scooters and several smaller scoots. So you can see we have a potpourri of everything!

We go down to Rabbit Hash a lot! I am off Mondays and Fridays so I trek all over the place on my days off if you ever want to hook up.

Now...I have to get back to work!
