Happy Birthday Ride.

Unread postby Rolly56 » 16 Jul 2011, 05:21

:D G'day Folks. My family surprised me for my birthday a couple of weeks ago,and financed a winter ride to Queensland for me.Saturday, the 2nd of July at 2am I headed off.A dry trip for a change. You beauty.Dry for 23 miles. Wet for the next 150 miles,in the dark,O joy.Things got better though. The closer to Queensland, the more blue sky was to be seen. The last 2 hours, the road was dry,and the big storm I was following drifted out to sea.I had a relaxing few days, and birthday, with my uncle and aunt, and headed for home on Wednesday the 6th of July at 7am.An absolute perfect ride home was happening. The first 400 miles were a dream.the last 250 miles were a nightmare.Gailforce winds had started down home while I was away. The last 5 hours I almost met with disaster.I don't know how,but Big scoot and I managed to make it home unscathed.Never been in wind like that ,and hope to never ride in wind like that again. So much debris on the road, mainly branches, and some complete trees.10.30pm that night the Wing delivered me home safely once more.8 trips interstate, and never a seconds trouble.Fuel consumption was 72 to 74 mpg.Not bad at freeway speed fully loaded.Fully loaded is me dressed at 80kg's,underseat area packed, about 5kg's and bag on the back seat with about 5kg's as well. The top box remained empty, and is great to put the helmet and gloves in when it's time to eat or refuel.Used to worry me leaving the helmet, even locked on the scooter. The top box is also useful as storage for the gift for my darling wife. The top box was her Xmas present to me.Ha!.Have a great weekend All.Cheers,Rolly. :D :D :D

Happy Belated Birthday, Rolly!

Unread postby Bonegirl » 20 Jul 2011, 05:15

Talk about an eventful Birthday!

I have ridden in some pretty hardy wind in the past and it is quite scary on my small scooter. If you had trouble on the big scoot, I imagine it was really scary.

The topcase is so wonderful to have; I have had one always and it is a lifesaver.

Well sounds like it was a great day and a bad day all rolled into one. But in the end, a pretty adventurous day, if nothing else.

Many more birthdays to you, my Friend!

:D G'day Bonegirl. An adventurous day it was.Not one I'd like to repeat, but a useful experience just the same. This is my first top case,as you say,a life saver. The little scoot came with one attached, that saved me fitting one to it.The wind stayed here for another week, but August is when it usually starts to blow for a couple of months. Not scared now, well, not much.LOL.Slow is better than fast in the wind.More time to react and control the scoot.Cheers till next time,Rolly. :D :D :D
