Deal's Gap and Slaying the Dragon 2008

Unread postby Bonegirl » 11 Oct 2008, 01:54

I just wanted to share my recent scooter trip to North Carolina. I have always wanted to take my scooter to Deal's Gap but have been too nervous about all the curves involved (318 curves in 11 miles for those of you not familiar with The Tail of the Dragon). The first day was awesome and it was unreal watching sport bikes "kneel" around the tight twisties. You all know how I feel about curves and the things that lurk on the other side: sand, gravel, sticks, stones and even an occasional dog! So I have a lot of respect for each and every curve. But this stretch of Highway 129 is just about as clean and pristine as you could imagine, most likely due to the heavy volume of traffic through here. So by day 6 I was zooming through the curves beyond my wildest dreams! I had sport bike guys come up to me at the end to compliment me on my riding skills! Do you believe that? One couple from Louisville followed me down in their truck to talk to me about how I was "tearing up" the Dragon. So I was really pleased with how well I did and how my skills and confidence increased each time I rode the Dragon.

I want to say "Thanks" to Seth and Ben because I have heard them talk about curves and how to balance and lean a million times and could finally practice what I saw and heard. It was just like they said.

There are several websites with pictures of me and everyone else who rode the week we were there. Check these sites out sometime just for the fun of it.

We have to trailer down and it only holds 2 scooters so I don't know if that works for you.
