Vespa Lexington 2010 Save the date for Crazy Mary’s Whiskey Run (Scooter Rally)

It is looking like the beautiful city of Lexington and the Circle 4 Scooter Club will host it’s first scooter rally, Crazy Mary’s Whiskey Run this October 1-2 2010. Lots of fun events planned including a meet and greet, a outdoor movie, a long country ride through Woodford County including horse farms and bourbon distilleries (including a distillery tour), food, drinks, a gymkhana and good music. If you have never been to Kentucky this should be a real treat, we have some of the best scenic country roads taking you through our beautiful horse farms and of course some great bourbon distilleries. Everyone is invited and we hope to get a good number of out of town guests, nothing beats our souther hospitality!

Registration for the event is $20 before September 15th, and $25 after. If you have any questions you can always email us at info@vespalexington.com and hopefully the Circle 4 Scooter Club will get their acts together and offer a online registration, info, etc (hahaha).

Me and Ben are in

Postby Bonegirl » 23 Aug 2010, 13:04

Me and Ben are in. We will be leaving from here as soon as he gets home from work at 3:30. It will take us 3 hours at the most so we should make it in time for burgers at 6:30! I linked to a map from Mt. Healthy but it should give you a start and an idea of how long it will take you to get down there and where it is located. Not sure where we are staying yet but I'm looking at Red Roof Inns, Super 8 annd Motel 6.

The World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park are the same weekend as this Rally and lots of rooms are already booked. So as of right now, I may be looking for friends to stay with!

I'm thinking that with Ralph the Zombie Dog, this may be a day trip, down early saturday and back later.

It's hell to plan to attend a rally with an undead zombie dog

Poor Ralph just wants to stay with his loving family. There will be many more Rallies. Take him with you like those other zillion people did this weekend. He'll "eat" well, if nothing else!

I would be interested in the Crazy Mary Rally as well. I was looking at Kentucky State Parks, Fort Boonesburough State Park have very nice year around Camping with nice restroom and showers. I was thinking of loading my camper and trailering down. If Angie and Ben still have there camper we could accommodate 12 Just thinking out load here. another though could be to check with Carl about accommodations from the local members about parking campers at someones place or a Walmart Parking lot near the rally.

I have searched every where for a hotel. No luck what so ever. I have even checked BnB's. Everyone has been booked up for over a year. I was told if you do find a place it will be $250 a night. OUCH!

I'm in on the camper thing I'm willing to pay to stay in someones camper for a night.

It's great to hear of the interest, and it should be a wonderful ride at one of the best times of the year here. We are beginning to urgently seek info on how we might help with accomodations. All avenues are being explored. Frankly, we are surprised, at the enthusiastic response from so many 'out of towners.' Bunches of things are being pursued such as members housing guests, farms that might allow camping, and so on. Stay tuned. We're going to call an emergency meeting of Circle 4 and try and resolve as many of these issues as we can, as quickly as we can. Please continue to plan on coming, it really will be great. Stay tuned here and keep a close eye on the Facebook page "Crazy Mary's Whiskey Run."

Happy News, for those that like to camp either primitively or RV wise. There is a campground, "Good Ol Days Farm" located 6 miles outside of New Circle Rd (Circle 4 - the inner beltway around Lexington) that can accomodate folks. This would put it roughly 10 -15 miles from our starting and ending points. Old Frankfort is a scooter and bicycle friendly road. So travel would not be hazardous and it's very beautiful. As a matter of fact part of our route might pass right by it. Anyway, the man who owns the campground is named John Dance. He seems like a decent sort. However, many are trying to profiteer from the WEG which are going on during our rally so I would suggest some negotiation might be worth attempting his numbers are: 859 873 9520, cell 859 312 0394, toll free 877 793 - FARM. We are also looking to see if some would be willing to house folks. I know some already are. Perhaps we can get a list out there. We're working. Next year will be a piece of cake

All right here's the skinny on motel accomodations. I have randomly called several motels in Lexington and surrounding cities such as PAris, Georgetown and Winchester. I have yet to find one that is full, all have vacancies. One, New Circle Inn (which isnt the nicest place, but I assume clean) wants $42 a night. They wont take reservations more than two days prior though - dont know why. The Catalina was the same way, inexpensive but they wouldnt take reservations at all unless paid for in advance with cash. I suppose we could make some arrangement to pay on this end if money were sent ahead. He wants $125/night way high in my opinion. Anyhoo, my honest opinion is, is that there are going to be tons of empty rooms in lexington, and the prices being quoted are likely to drop dramatically at 4-5 oclock on a given but it's a chance, but 150 -300 is common right now, but everyone has vacancies they're are just being opportunistic

my preference would be to leave the camper home and to share a motel room so i could ride down, but I'm flexible.

The New Circle Inn at $42 is good and I have the mulla to pay now if they have a room with two beds I would split the cost with you Mike if your interested. In the past I have brought an airbed along and we have split the final cost three ways if the room is big enough. Normally Motel rooms are big enough if we moved a table around.

I just called the desk of the New Circle Inn and asked about availability for October 1-2 2010 and as Carl says they make no reservations in advance I was hoping that I could arrange to pay now for the rooms but they would not accept that plan they say the best way is to call them on Thursday before the weekend to check on availability. It seems a little funny that they wouldn't accept payment to secure a room. Perhaps they rent rooms by The hour LOL. I just called a second time and she said that if I gave her my name she would put it down and they could look for me to call on Thursday before Oct 1 to confirm attendance. The cost quoted was $42 per night and that Includes Tax for a room with two beds. I gave her my Name.
