2012 Winter Weather Riding

Unread postby Bonegirl » 30 Jan 2012, 20:42

Well, friends, it looks like the last day of January is going to be something wonderful. Bundle up for a cool morning and take a spin to work today, if possible.

I haven't ridden for a couple weeks due to icy roads and rain (and rain and more rain). But I think tomorrow may be a great day to start that bike up and liven up our winter blahs.

I've got the clothes laid out already! Got a new camera for my birthday. Tis the season to snap a picture and enjoy 50-degree winter weather. I'll post some pics and maybe you can, too!

I've got some waterproof, windproof riding gear, some heated gloves & heated socks so I've been set. As long as it is above 38 deg I've been off on short jaunts. Been loving this non snowy, mostly 40 and above winter, less the torrential rains that is.

This has been such a mild weather compared to last year for riding. It's been great! I think I've NOT ridden to work only 2-3 days so far. Warm socks, good boots, snow pants, thick gloves, balaclava, layers underneath jacket all make riding this time of year possible. That and the short 2.5 mile commute to work. I only have to withstand the cold for about 8 minutes.

Hats off

Steve, low miles or not, most people would say you're crazy for going through all the work of dressing for less than 3 miles but it still beats driving to work!

I will take the scooter any day, over my car. The rain and slick streets are nasty but we are tough enough to don the gear and ride when it's cold. I have an invigorating 20 miles ride to work and absolutely love it!

Hats off to all of the bikers who still like to get out and ride on those frigid days.

I could probably make it to work in the same time it takes me to dress for a cold/wet ride but fortunately haven't had to do it that much this mild winter season. And yes, riding over driving any day. I trust my tires on wet pavement most of the time. It's the painted stripes and manhole covers I use most caution around.

20 miles to and from work is some good riding time! And stress relieving too, I'll bet, on the way home!

I saw your lonely Buddy at the 5pm Super Bowl service! It rained all day and all night. I knew you were in for a wet one today!

Hello. Rolly! I was reading about your tires and then saw this. Always good to hear from the Underside!
