104 degrees, the perfect time for a Puncture

Unread postby dademoss » 02 Aug 2011, 16:11

 Riding home today, my Shinko rear tire was brutally attacked and maimed.

Note, Scooter handles like crap with deflating rear tire.

Note 2, Thank goodness for small air compressor, inflated the tire twice to get me 5 miles home :D

That answers the question I had been thinking for a week, how long will the Shinko last

Enough fun, back to the tire job at hand, mounting the Michelin for it's test! :D

Rear Tire life records to date:

Original Sava Tire lasted ~3200 miles
Continental Zippy - ~ 3300 miles
Shinko SR007-~ 2600 miles (may have lasted another 200 miles)
Michelin City Grip - TBD

Congratulations on your character building exercise. :?

Glad you made it home. :)

I know the GeeTeeEssses are notoriously hard on rear tires but 2600 miles on the Shinko is kind of tough to swallow. Did you try the Shinko on a whim or did some jackhole recommend it to you?

(I only got 3800 miles out of mine)

Let us know how your City Grip works out, I'm running a Michelin Pilot Sport right now and it seems to be doing pretty well so far. If all goes according to plan, it will still have enough tread when I leave for vacation to keep me from changing it, but not enough tread to last through vacation. I plan on trying the City Grips then. 8)

More smilies.

Yep, the GTS has quite an appetite for rear tires  The Shinko was a low cost alternative, and the cost/mile was the lowest so far.

Rode the heck out of it, 2 up over Tail of the Dragon and all the other roads down there during our trip, so I am not too disappointed in it's performance.

I'm doing well then. My IRC 530R's on the SH 150i have over 5,000 mi and are still in excellent shape. I was told at my last service that could expect 8-10K out of them. The Bridgestone's on the Reflex are also looking good with 5,400 mi. Not as good as the SH though.
